    storage tanks ranging from 1000 gallons to 30 000 gallons and replacing them with above ground tanks ranging from 1000 gallons to 50 000 gallons The tanks are located at three different sites and hold diesel unleaded gasoline or JP 5 fuel They are used for three processes fleet vehicle loading diesel storage tank for the generator and jet fuel loading As a result of placing the new tanks above ground the project included replacement of process piping and an upgrade to the controls The final plans included civil structural mechanical and Instrumentation and electrical design components all provided by Cannon At one site an existing ground vehicle fleet fueling facility was replaced with an entirely new facility nearby The project scope included removing the existing equipment clearing the site bringing it back to grade and finishing surfaces The replacement facility included double walled aboveground fuel storage tanks fuel dispensers interconnecting piping shade canopies specialized fuel system instrumentation and controls electrical equipment and supply and site finishes The design package included demolition and construction drawings detailed equipment specifications and an estimate of construction costs At the most complex site an aviation fueling area the existing underground tanks and associated equipment and piping needed to be removed This necessitated a full redesign of the area beginning with a process analysis and operational optimization The facility design included new tanks pumps equipment foundations piping ancillary systems instrumentation PLC control electrical supply and site finishes The redesign incorporated many improvements in operations and maintenance access and ergonomics The design package included demolition and construction drawings detailed equipment specifications and an estimate of construction costs All installations were designed to meet the U S Department of Defense Whole Building Design Guide requirements Back to Market Information Location Plant 42 Palmdale California Market Industrial Aerospace

    for the new Base Housing and Housing Renovations Phases of the VAFB West Housing Project as well as the new 6 608 square foot Community Center The project covers an area of about 20 acres and consists of 502 homes to be demolished 164 new units and a total of 703 existing homes to be renovated This project began in November 2007 with a six year initial development period that included the design construction and or renovation as well as the overall management maintenance and operational responsibilities Balfour Beatty for an estimated 867 end state housing units Amenities included in the housing project were a new pool splash park dog park basketball courts volleyball courts track football baseball field picnic areas gazebo with grills fitness center sauna locker rooms multi purpose room and a new maintenance and self help facility VAFB Military Housing Project Partnership worked with AFCEE for incorporating and testing sustainability concepts including use of recycled content materials conserving energy and water limiting air emissions from construction and operation activities preserving and restoring the site s natural resources and identification of building materials and products that meet agreed upon recycled content goals During the initial design phase Cannon s survey crews provided detailed topographic field survey of the project area which included locating all surface and underground utilities such as gas water sewer storm drain storm drain grate inlets and outfalls electrical pull boxes and transformer pads street lights and telephone and cable TV lines and risers Utility information included pipe invert elevations at all manhole land cleanout locations Utility features were located using GPS which was based on horizontal and vertical control referenced to VAFB s Geodetic Control Network Cannon provided layout staking and utility mark out services to Hensel Phelps and Balfour Beatty during construction Back

    office space within existing 36 699 SF Building 02466 Renovation included office furnishing configuration in existing 6 081 SF of existing office space within existing 63 238 SF Building 20210 Complete renovation of 11 625 SF Industrial Laboratory Building Cannon provided structural engineering services for this project Repair and Construction of Wing 8 in Historic Michelson Laboratory Building 00005 The project area was located within the existing Wing 8 of Michelson Laboratory Building 00005 Built in 1945 the Michelson Laboratory has been recognized as a Historic Building Because of this special attention to maintaining the exterior character was a critical requirement of this repair and construction project This was a multi phased project to repair 5 654 SF of interior space in a portion of Wing 8 Building 00005 as well as the design and construction of a 6 190 SF second floor interior mezzanine To accommodate the continued use of the adjacent lab spaces the work in this area required special attention to scheduling Identification and careful abatement of hazardous materials were included in the work Cannon provided structural engineering services for this project Bulkhead Repair The bulkhead for the storage magazine had separated from the building roof allowing water intrusion into the building The existing connection consisted of tie rods attached near the top of the bulkhead and welded to the building roof The repair consisted of replacing the existing tie rods with new tie rods utilizing a turnbuckle to close the separation between the bulkhead and the roof The scope of work included development of structural calculations for the structural components and preparation of construction documents Scope of work also included construction administration services including submittal review and RFI responses The design was prepared in accordance with the minimum requirements per the 2006 International Building Code Back
