    certified in Equine Assisted Growth and Learning from the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association EAGALA an international leader in equine therapy Equine Assisted Psychotherapy EAP and Equine Assisted Learning EAL incorporate horses experientially for emotional growth and learning We work collaboratively with a licensed therapist and a horse professional to help our mentees and horses address treatment needs Participants learn about themselves and others via hands on activities with the horses and then processing or discussing feelings behaviors and patterns While we teach our program participants how to work and bond with horses Ebony Horsewomen s primary focus is on education and preparatory skills as defined by the individual or group Equine Assisted Growth and Learning is a powerful and effective therapeutic approach that has an incredible impact on individuals youth families and groups This approach addresses a variety of mental health and human development needs including behavioral issues attention deficit disorder PTSD substance abuse eating disorders depression anxiety relationship problems and communication needs Why We Use Horses Horses are large dynamic gentle and very powerful animals and they can be viewed as unpredictable and intimidating Approaching interacting and mounting a horse prompts a person to confront any fears and insecurities they may have Youth will learn how maintain control work through their feelings and move forward despite any underlying lack of confidence or hurdles Our program participants also discover the exhilaration of horseback riding especially if fear has been a catalyst in preventing them from participating in physical activities in the past Horses are mirrors to our emotions and they have an uncanny ability to teach us about ourselves Our professional EAGALA certified and nurturing staff offers support for positive youth development EHW offers summer camp and year round activities where kids experience the slower pace of life

    peril by sitting on the arm of her mother s treasured chair Nevertheless she rode Such a strange child who is considered a colored girl with no available supporting images no available supporting history perceived herself to be a cowgirl After high school she joined the United States Marine and after her time in the Corps was over she returned home only to find that the passion for the horse had grown and persisted to pull at her It was then that she connected with a men s group in Hartford CT The Ebony Horsemen who for decades had been special group of African American horsemen now finding that their organization had traveled to the end of area She approached the President of this retiring group thinking to just satisfy her personal need to reconnect with the horse and found that in that effort would be the foundation of what is now known as the Ebony Horsewomen So in the Fall of 1984 Patricia E Lawson Kelly and her youngest daughter founded and organized the Ebony Horsewomen Ebony Horsewomen s membership which laid the foundation for the organization has members from Alaska to Maine and are skilled equestrians who appeared in parades rodeos and horse shows all across America Ebony Horsewomen have the proud honor of being the first female African American Equestrian organization to have been invited to the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena California 1990 and 1991 The State of Connecticut Legislature proclaimed Ebony Horsewomen Inc Goodwill Ambassadors and declared Connecticut to be the official Home of Ebony Horsewomen Ebony Horsewomen developed innovative equine based programs to further its belief and mission In expansion the organization has developed a full service equestrian and agricultural center incorporating ten 10 other species of animals from which to develop comprehensive

    EGALA She is certified in Horse Safety and CPR and First Aid Mrs Kelly is also a former United States Marine Dominique Bourgeois Executive Administrative Assistant and Assistant Riding Instructor a graduate of our program Ms Bourgeois is also certified by UCONN Animal Science Department in Equine Safety certified as an Associate Riding Instructor and maintains certification in CPR and First Aid Hiliary Riel Assistant Financial Manager Hiliary is the newest member of the Ebony family Ms Riel has an extensive background in medical billing and financial structures through most national insurance companies Victor Delaire Head Veterinary Animal Science Instructor B S in Animal and Poultry Sciences Virginia Tech Blacksburg VA Mr Delaire studied abroad in Senegal and Gambia and is presently employed by University of Connecticut School of Agriculture and Natural Resources Mr Delaire is certified in Horse Safety CPR and First Aid Julio Rodriguez B S Asst Instructor of Animal Science is a recent graduate of the University of Connecticut Department Animal Science and Natural Resource Harriet Elish Licensed Clinical Social Worker Ms Elish has been a Licensed therapist for over 30 years and has worked with numerous youth development organizations public and private Ms Elish is also licensed as a family therapist and is additionally certified in Equine Assisted Growth Learning as a mental health professional by EGALA Ms Elish is certified in CPR and First Aid Beckett Associates Glastonbury CT Dr Stewart Beckett Consultant Dr Beckett is the licensed Veterinarian consultant for all Ebony Horsewomenâ s livestock Renee Bouffard MSW Renee is also a Certified Path Intl Riding Instructor Contractor is also a graduate from the University of Connecticut School of Social Workhas been a riding Instructor with the organization for 4 years Log in Register Log in FORGOT USERNAME OR PASSWORD Remember Me Ebony Horsewomen

    note of the grip drugs and violence had on her community and that local youth were at risk of falling through the cracks So in 1985 she reinvented Ebony Horsewomen Inc which is now an youth development organization that incorporates equine assisted therapy to empower youth toward successful lives and to create a safe space for youth to get mentorship and personal development Kelly purchased four horses and began teaching youth how to ride Over the years many of her riders have been featured in parades and other events in celebration of Black equestrians in 1987 Patricia developed a Horse Sense program which brought horses educators and doctors into Hartford s most under served schools and neighborhoods Her program helped cultivate self esteem academic achievement and anti drug and alcohol education The Horse Sense program went on to win several civic and community awards Today the programs she have created are innovative and essential to providing career and job development skills along with emotional and personal empowerment skill essential for the development of youth who live in environmentally socially and financially oppressed areas Recently Patricia Kelly was honored as one of CNN s Top 10 Heroes of 2014 for her work with at risk kids has appeared on The Queen Latifah and Dr Oz Shows and is recognized as one of Aetna s Champions for Change Patricia Kelly has offered keynote speeches at events about youth mentorship and effective leadership mental health program development and has emphasized the importance of equine therapy youth employment programs and education in inner city neighborhoods Kelly is a 2006 inductee in the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum and Hall of Fame and has been a trained equestrian instructor for over 34 years as well as a certified Urban Riding instructor Master Urban Riding instructor
