It seems that Vermont is deviating from the status quo without loosing the cutting edge benefit of super speed Internet facilities Already around 600 homes in Vermont are receiving the same level of terrifically fast speeds for half the price offered by Google s fiber Internet VTel Vermont Telephone Company has beaten others to it by installing a Gigabit Internet service through a fiber network The asking rate by VTel for its fiber Internet service is 35 per month a staggeringly cheap deal compared to the 70 per month charged by Google Fiber VTel already has a customer base of more than 17 500 residents in the Vermont area The Wall Street Journal has mentioned that VTel s chief executive officer has expressed a personal Internet in upgrading the company s phone network as it has been in place since 1890 The investment of 94 million for the installation of fiber lines spreading across over 1 200 miles has come from the federal stimulus money which the company has won for their initiative All customers of VTel will be able to register for the Gigabit Internet connectivity within the next couple of months However the company officials has not made it clear whether the pricing tag of 35 is just an introductory offer under the pilot project or other wise From all accounts however it seems Google Fiber is in for some heavy competition even at these early stages Michael Guite Chief Executive of VTel has openly admitted that it was mainly due to the fiber Internet initiative of Google that VTel too has been able to provide the Gigabit Internet facility to its customers this covered under the super speed fiber Internet facility of Google The city has a population of over 125 000 and is located in the southwest part of Kansas The announcement of the city receiving the super fast Google fiber Internet service has been made soon after the Olathe City Council s unanimous voting to approve the agreement with Google Though this coverage is only one step in the massive expansion program planned by Google the super speed Internet service in Olathe highlights two significant issues Once Google fiber Internet coverage is provided to Olathe it will be the largest city in Kansas to receive the service Secondly this movement may presage more Google fiber expansions in other parts of the Kansas state and beyond Speaking about the proposed expansion project Michael Copeland Olathe Mayor said we are highly excited to work as partners with Google in introducing the next generation fiber optic Internet system to homes businesses and schools in Olathe According to Google the fiber to the home solution provides a broadband Internet speed up to 1 gigabit per second This is about hundred times faster than the normal broadband connection received in other parts of the country Google fiber also enables a crystal clear television experience The initial rolling out of the fiber optic service began in the metro areas of Kansas City At present the company offered three different tiers of service starting from the baseline installation fee of 300 or the 25 payable monthly for a period of twelve months Once the initial payment is made subscribers get a guaranteed free broadband Internet service for seven years at the present average national Internet speed Customers in the second tier has to pay 70 monthly for the super fast fiber Internet service while the top tier customers have to pay 120 monthly for Internet plus Google TV service Both second and the top tier customers do not have to pay the initial 300 installation fee With the expansion in Olathe Google Fiber is better positioned to compete against leading teleco Comcast the largest cable company in the United States as well as one of the main broadband providers in Olathe Share this Cable plans to expand consumer trials to a total of 15 states that charge Xfinity Internet subscribers extra fees The extra fees have been imposed in cases where customers stream online video for many hours or run through vast amounts of data The new move by Comcast will definitely open up debate on whether the companies have rights to set caps for data use on their customers While some people argue that companies are going beyond their jurisdiction the service providers have time and again insisted that it s their obligation to determine how customers use their data The most affected customers are those who use heavy data but will come good on cable TV users Understandably Comcast has explained that they shoulder very heavy burdens every time customers overuse their data and its time now to pass that to customers According to figure availed by the company Comcast has set its monthly usage cap at 300 gigabytes with the median Comcast Xfinity customer consuming about 40 Gigabytes Already they have begun similar trials in South Florida and Atlanta areas at an extra 30 or 35 every month for unlimited data usage Separately Comcast has experimented with charging subscribers 10 for every 50 gigabytes of data over 300 Gigabytes a month or as some say 10 for a 50 Gig bucket The company s spokesman Charlie Douglas said When you have 10 percent of the customers consuming 50 percent of the network bandwidth it s only fair that those consumers should pay more Market analysts have pointed out that Comcast Cable is taking advantage of the growing popularity for Xfinity Internet to introduce the caps They have said unless they do a review the plan might backfire and cause hostility among customers most of who have openly criticized the caps The company has maintained its ground that the trials must go on Share this Facebook Google Tumblr Twitter More Print Email Tweet Be the first to comment What do you think Posted by admin November 24 2015 at 6 15 pm Wireless has come up with presumably the easiest data plan in the American market that will allow customers to choose their ideal plan In a statement posted on their official website Verizon said Beginning September 9 our newest price plan will offer five easy sizes of data to match how our customers use wireless service These new data options come in sizes just like other things we buy Under the new plan customers will get to save more on their cost for using internet and enjoy the best experience ever The five data sizes are Small 30 month for 1GB of shareable data Medium 45 month for 3GB of shareable data Large 60 month for 6GB of shareable data X Large 80 month for 12GB of shareable data XX Large 100 month for 18GB of shareable data The company further said that every data size comes with unlimited talk and text with extra data for just 15 per GB Rob Miller the vice president of consumer pricing for Verizon Wireless said the five options will give their customers all the freedom to enjoy data in the best way at lowered cost He said they expect to get positive feedback from customers Choosing a wireless plan is now easier than ever Customers said they don t want to have to do a lot of math to figure out their best options and we heard them A plan with small medium large and x large choices makes sense for the way people actually use their wireless service Miller added that Verizon is pleased to set another market trend amid stiff competition We were the first to introduce shared data plans more than three years ago and our new S M L XL XXL options build on that success using the insights our customers have provided since then Over the next few months Verizon customers will also see a simpler and more streamlined bill Share this Facebook Google Tumblr data Verizon Wireless Verizon Eliminates Two Year Contracts Verizon Eliminates 2 Year Contracts Verizon is following T Mobile s footsteps and eliminating its two year service contracts The largest wireless company in the US is also doing away with the practice of selling discounted phones Under the new system new customers will not be offered two year contracts but will pay outright for the phones they buy Clients that cannot pay for the phones will be given the option of fully paying the phones off in interest free monthly installments The cancellation of two year service contracts by Verizon is a welcome change because with the discounted phones customers paid more for the phones based on the higher monthly fees charged for voice data and text services The higher fees continued being charged even after the contract period was over The contract system used to benefit those that upgraded their phones after the two year mark even though most people continued to use the old phone hence many kept on incurring expensive charges for longer than necessary New Price Plan from Verizon Now in Effect The elimination of Verizon phone contract system begins on August 13 2015 and will be replaced by four differently sized data plans based on how customers use their wireless services The change from Verizon will not only affect new customers but it will also affect existing customers looking to buy new smartphones from Verizon The new pricing plan from Verizon offers 30 per month option for a GB of shareable data and 45 a month for 3 GB of shareable data Customers that wireless companies because of data throttling issues some companies have not changed their ways AT T is a good example as it continues to throttle data where some of its unlimited data plans are concerned However the company recently announced that it will be changing some of its policies on data throttling come 2015 The change is expected to affect its LTE services Critics have stated that while AT T throttles unlimited data plans of its LTE users it still provides preferential treatment to its 3G users It seems that customers with 3G enables devices are getting different treatment from LTE customers Although data throttling affects users on both platforms it seems that it specifically affects LTE users more For example it reduces data speeds for LTE customers once they exceed their 3 GB data allowance On the other hand LTE customers are throttled when they surpass a 5 GB data limit This is deemed as unfair as LTE customers obviously pay more for their data plans than 3G customers Hence many argue that based on pricing the throttling should not be based on data limits at all In addition it is reported that at first AT Ts data throttling applied to all its users uniformly when they surpassed certain data limits However in July this year the company switched to throttling only during network congestion It was believed that the change applied to all AT T users but now evidence points to different practices It seems that the throttling of data during congestion applies only to 3G users while LTE users are affected by throttling based on data usage This is another discrepancy that users need to see fixed This double standards concerning data throttling has caused an uproar that has forced the company to promise a change in policy this coming year It will be a relief for LTE customers especially as some of them have had to move to capped data plans to avoid the disturbing throttling practices of the company We can only wait and see if the company changes policy as promised in 2015 Share this Facebook Google Tumblr Twitter More Print Email Tweet Be the first to comment What do you think Posted by admin February 1 2015 at 1 01 am Categories 3G data plans to its customers The data plans will benefit smart phone users of AT T services as they will be able to get 3 GB of data a month for 40 They will also have the option of getting 6 GB of data for 70 per month This is a significant change as the plans were 2 GB for 40 and 4 GB for 70 a month previously The company is not the only ISP provider offering improved speeds and data limits to customers Generally ISPs in the US have realized that their customer s demands for higher speeds now than they ever did before Customers are now using more sophisticated devices and using the Internet for much more than just browsing They now stream content download music and send photos among other services that demand the availability of higher internet speeds and more data offerings Verizon Also Boosting Data Plans For Customers Verizon made a similar move earlier in October as well It announced that it was planning to double the data it offers under some of its plans Customers of Verizon s 80 6 GB plan were offered 10 GBs a month while those who went for its 100 tier plan got an upgrade from 10 GBs to 15 GBs Although Verizon s offer is only for a limited time it is not only available to existing customers but also to new subscribers This shows how ISPs are using increased Internet speeds to also gain new customers or prevent existing ones from straying to other ISPs Sprint has also not been left behind as it announced in August that it would be providing unlimited data plans at 60 a month All this competition is bound to benefit the consumer and that is always a good thing Share
